Free Lunch
This
groove-based band, formed by Nick Homes in 1996, toured extensively in
France and was very popular on Japanese radios.
There is an expression that musicians use when all involved are grooving
and playing on the same wavelength. That expression is called in the
pocket. After listening to Nick Homess Dirty Dogs, in the
pocket is a fitting statement for this exceptional band. The Dirty Dogs
have combined various musical elements such as the jazz-funk of the
Crusaders and Tower of Power, the Latin boogaloo soul of Ray Barreto and
the Latin Soul Brothers with James
Brown Funk, and just a touch of down home blues. Their sound is basic but
unique, simple and unpretentious. Once you hear the Dirty Dogs play, it is
inevitable that you will move to groove. Mark Copland - Jazz DJ, WFDU
FM, New Jersey.
Free
Lunch by the Dirty Dogs combines Maceo Parker and Rahsaan Roland Kirk for
one of the funkiest, good time recordings you are likely to hear. Its
fun, fresh and full of funk infected charm... Blow, Blow, Blow magazine.
